This Android app replaces the paid YouTube Red subscription. You can get rid of ads, download videos and listen to them in the background.
YouTube artificially limits the capabilities of its mobile app in order to promote its paid YouTube Red subscription. It allows you to save videos to the device’s memory, get rid of ads and play videos in the background when the application is minimized or the smartphone screen is locked.
In Russia, the YouTube Red subscription does not work, so even if you want, you will not be able to pay the service for access to additional functions. So you'll have to turn to third-party applications.
The YMusic app completely replaces all paid features of YouTube Red. It can stream YouTube videos in the background and download them in video or audio format. This way you can listen to music, lectures, podcasts, news programs – everything that does not require a picture.
How to download the application
Accessing these features is against the policies of YouTube and Google Play, so you will not find the YMusic app in the app store. You need to separately download the apk file and install it as a third-party application. The system may ask you to enable installation of applications from unknown sources.
When updates appear, the application itself will offer to download the latest version.
How it works
It is easier to work with YMusic via mobile YouTube application. You need to select any video and click the “Share” button. Two new buttons will appear in the pop-up menu: Play and Download. The first starts streaming of the audio track of the video, and the second allows you to download the video to the device memory.
Please note that when listening in the background, YMusic does not remember the time at which you stopped in the YouTube application via the “Share” button, so you will have to rewind manually.
YMusic also has a full-fledged audio player built into it. Through the application interface you can find and download music from YouTube videos. There are tops with the most popular tracks and ready-made playlists. You can also listen to your music library from the device memory.
The quality of audio tracks from YouTube clips is noticeably worse than that of a regular MP3 file or music on the streaming service. So it’s better to use YMusic as a radio – there are a huge number of music selections there.
