The most profitable and unsuccessful films of 2022 have been named

In the list of the most successful films, Illumination animation unexpectedly surpassed Marvel and DC blockbusters, but the leader turned out to be predictable.

The most profitable and flop films of 2022 have been named

Deadline has named the most profitable and flop films of 2022. To do this, journalists calculated the costs of producing blockbusters and correlated them with box office receipts worldwide.

The most successful, predictably, was James Cameron's Avatar: The Way of Water. The film grossed $2.3 billion and brought its creators $531.7 million in net profit. The expenses for the blockbuster are also impressive: they spent $400 million on filming, $300 million on fees for the film crew, and $175 million on marketing. Total costs for the sequel amounted to almost $1.1 billion.

The second was “Top Gun: Maverick”. It brought in $391.1 million in net profit. One of the biggest expenses was the fee of Tom Cruise, who played the main role. For the film, he received from 100 to 200 million dollars.

The third was the cartoon “Minions: Gruvitation” – $382 million in net profit. It even beat out such highly-hyped blockbusters as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Batman.
